More creepiness in Guatemala — a Twitter user is arrested by police.
Following Sunday’s murder of a prominent Guatemalan lawyer who claims (via a beyond-the-grave video) that he was assassinated by the President and the First Lady, and today’s growing protests in the capital city, we read that a Twitter user in Guatemala has been arrested for “inciting financial panic” by encouraging Guatemalans to withdraw money from Banrural, the allegedly corrupt bank at the center of the murder controversy.
English-language media have yet to report on this so you’ll need some working Spanish to read the breaking news on El Periodico’s website.
(Disclosure: Global Integrity is advising the Vice President of Guatemala on transparency reforms.)

I’m glad to see the administration upholding the rule of law in a region that is fraught with disregard for it. Law and order is needed during time of crisis more than at any other time. Thus far the demonstrations here have been peaceful and there appears to be no organized effort to dissuade protesters.
