Global Integrity works with government and civil society partners in countries and communities around the world, supporting their efforts to address complex challenges relating to corruption, the use of resources and the delivery of public services. A non-profit organization with an operating budget of $3.5m, we have a diverse and global team of 15 staff members. Based primarily at the Open Gov Hub co-working space in Washington D.C., we also have colleagues in Africa, Europe and South America.
Established in 2005, we have a track record of developing and deploying innovative approaches to assessing and addressing governance-related challenges. Since 2015 our work has helped to put learning-centered and adaptive approaches at the heart of the governance and development agenda, as well as informing policy and practice relating to transparency and open data. We currently have a six-person board chaired by Ania Calderon. We are seeking up to three new board members to help guide the organization’s evolution.
Board of Directors Qualifications
We are looking for experts who are passionate about our mission and want to support our work on a voluntary basis. In particular, we are seeking professionals with a non-profit finance or accounting background, fundraising experience, legal expertise, communications experience, or whose work has involved efforts to improve the systems which shape the delivery of public services, including health and education.
To further strengthen our diversity and our global connections, we are particularly keen to hear from potential board members who are based in, or originate from, the global South.
Board of Directors Responsibilities
Global Integrity Board Members:
- Steer the organization. The Board meets four times a year, for 2-3 hours each time. Pre-pandemic, one of these meetings was held in person in Washington, D.C., with the other three meetings held virtually. Moving forward, we hope to find the occasional opportunity for in-person meetings, but remote participation will likely be the norm. Additional time may be required for work on committees, including our standing Governance, and Finance and Audit, committees. Board members will also be expected to play an active role in supporting our fundraising activities as we navigate a changing funding landscape.
- Champion Global Integrity. Board Members are critically important to helping Global Integrity thrive. Board members are expected to serve as ambassadors for the organization by helping to cultivate new funders, board members, or partners; speaking about or on behalf of Global Integrity with different constituencies; or making time to attend events, among others.
- Ensure financial accountability. Board members act as Trustees of the organization’s assets, and exercise oversight to ensure that it is well-managed and that its financial position remains sound.
