On Friday, March 30th from 10:30 AM to noon, at Johns Hopkins-SAIS Rome Building (1619 Massachusetts Avenue, NW, Washington, DC), Rome Room (first floor), Global Integrity will host an in-depth discussion with leading experts and a public brainstorming around open source and community-led projects, and government transparency. The conversation will follow a brief presentation of the Global Integrity Report: 2011, which will be formally released the same day.
After nearly a decade, generating more than 100,000 data points and several million words of Report material, Global Integrity feels it has reached a point where it can no longer strengthen the Report’s methodology on its own. Instead, it is considering open sourcing the Report by producing in-depth documentation and providing free public access to its web-based Indaba fieldwork platform so that third-party organizations and individuals can take up the methodology, produce their own Report-style assessments, and evolve the methods used for this research further.
Though, the Report, is used regularly by governments, aid donors, and NGOs to help prioritize governance reform efforts across more than 320 concrete metrics we feel the our proposed approach will ensure a stronger set of anti-corruption assessments generated by a community of peers, not solely Global Integrity.
At this event we’ll explore the merits and pitfalls of the proposed open sourcing of the Global Integrity Report with; Alex Howard, O’Reilly Media (Moderator), and panelists: Ellen Miller, Sunlight Foundation, Nathaniel Heller, Global Integrity, Mikel Maron, Map Kibera/OpenStreetMap, Francesca Recanatini, World Bank Group and Alejandra Palacios, Mexican Institute for Competitiveness.
