We are excited to announce that Ania Calderon is the new Chair of Global Integrity’s Board of Directors. Ania takes over the reins from Andrew Hoppin, who has served as an excellent Chair since 2016 and will continue to be a source of inspiration and innovation for the organization as one of our Directors.
Global integrity’s focus is on supporting civil society and government partners around the world as they seek to address corruption and improve the use of public resources. We do this in two ways: first, by providing tailored support for local leaders as they design and implement policies that fit their contexts, through cycles of politically engaged, data-driven action and learning; and second, by using the evidence and insights from that work in our advocacy and engagement to help put locally led innovation, learning, and adaptation – rather than so-called “best practice” – at the center of the governance and development agenda.
This makes Ania a perfect fit as Chair of the Global Integrity Board of Directors. As the Executive Director of the Open Data Charter, Ania is a key player in global efforts to leverage the potential of open data to improve the design and implementation of public policies in ways that bring citizens’ perspectives into the heart of the policy process. She also brings a wealth of experience navigating political dynamics and building coalitions for reform from her time leading the design and implementation of Mexico’s National Open Data Policy from 2013-2016.
These are exciting times at Global Integrity, with the addition of Sarah Rose to the Board, as well as a new Governance Committee (led by Erin Sines) established to drive ongoing board development. Over the coming months, the staff team will be working closely with Ania and the Board to review our strategy, sharpen our plans, improve our systems and make further progress toward being the diverse and inclusive organization we want, and need, to be.
The overall aim is to position us for greater impact by making Global Integrity more truly global, closer and more responsive to the frontline partners whose work we support, and better able to ensure that those partners’ perspectives and insights shape the evolution of the governance and development agenda. We are excited about what’s to come, and thrilled to have Ania help chart our course and lead the way!
