Evaluation of Financial Transparency Investments in Nigeria
There are opportunities for improving Nigeria’s Financial Transparency Landscape specially to deepen strategic capacity strengthening interventions and promote collaboration between government reformers and civil society groups, to enhace narratives and leverage civic awareness to empower citizens’ voices.
Objective
Develop a learning study to review the financial transparency landscape in Nigeria over the period of Luminate’s investment, to understand and document the role that Luminate’s partners have played in the evolution of the financial transparency space in Nigeria with the goal of identifying lessons learned and future opportunities for impact.
Approach
The approach to develop this learning study was to:
- Assess overall impact of the current financial transparency work by Luminate grantees, and identify what worked, and what didn’t work, and document specific impact stories.
- Highlight existing or emerging trends by interviewing civil society leaders, government representatives, donor agencies, journalists, and academics.
- Describe the Fiscal Transparency context in Nigeria broadly and reflect on the evolution of the eco-system since 2010 and the contributions of Luminate grantees to the evolution of, and current state of the financial transparency space in Nigeria.
