Incredibly, Wikileaks.org, an organization devoted to exposing corruption, has been muzzled by a U.S. court order (pdf download). Rather than attack a specific finding or document, the court has ordered their DNS registrar to essentially erase the organization’s website from the Web. While wikileaks.org is down, their site can be found via IP addess: http://88.80.13.160, which is hosted in Sweden.
The order comes at the request of a Swiss bank, Bank Julius Baer, and its Cayman Islands subsidiary who had been implicated in allegedly laundering money by documents posted on wikileaks.org. A recap of Wikileaks coverage of Bank Julius Baer is mirrored here.
I have had several conversations via email with people at Wikileaks as they worked to get their organization started up. I have been deeply impressed with the quality of their early work, and am genuinely shocked at this shutdown order. The U.S. joins China and Thailand in censoring the wikileaks.org website.
From the beginning, the Wikileaks folks have been expecting this kind of reaction all along, and have put serious thought into how to evade this kind of treatment. I thought they were being conspiratorial. I was wrong. I am confident that this will not slow them or their mission.
Is anyone familiar with the UCC?
Is anyone familiar with the Uniform Commercial Code by chance?
Or how about House Joint Resolution 192?
Or the Federal Reserve Act?
Are the following connected in anyone’s mind:
“United States”
“including”
“trade or business”
“public officer”
Title 26
Because for some reason they all seem terribly relevant to the situation at hand.

It’s worth noting that the reason this order was entered is that Dynadot agree to do it. This is a stipulated consent order. If dynadot wants to stay in business, it ought to be more protective of its customers.

In today’s america the Golden Rule has changed from “Do unto others as you would have done to you” into “The ones with the gold make the rules” what do you expect when corporations have more rights than individuals, can hide income by saying it came from out of state or out of the country, or can steal their employees ideas by saying they were developed on company time. Isn’t it time for a set of criminal laws that apply to corporate behavior? I wonder if the judge who signed the order isn’t on someones “christmas/get out of jail free” list himself.
You know, you’re completely right. It’s a terrible thing that “conspiracy-theory” has become synonymous with “nutjob theory”. While there are a lot of nutjob conspiracy theories out there, a theory is not invalid simply because it proposes a conspiracy. Only a fool would think that powerful people never get together and conspire in their own interests (and against the interests of others, or to violate the law).
Conspiracies do of course exist
conspiratorial… Yea bright thinking. How do you think that any conspiracy ever will be exposed, if theories about it get discarded because it is a theory of conspiracy?
